This is part one of a ten part series on starting your own law or consulting practice. First things first, your telephone number is your most important asset. As such, and no matter where you work, you should obtain your own phone number and have it forwarded to your current employer's office. If you can't do this, make sure to put your cell phone on your card and your outgoing emails and encourage your friends and clients to use that number. If you decided to leave to start your own business or change employers it will be a seemless transition. Get your own number, whatever the cost. selah.

I. Any entity can convert to LLC (608.439) by doing the following:
a. Prepare corporate resolution to convert (608.439(8))
b. Prepare Articles of Organization and a certificate of conversion (608.408)
i. Certificate of conversion must state (608.439(3)):
1. Date and jurisdiction when first entity created and jurisdiction immediately after
2. Name of other entity immediately prior to filing certificate of conversion to LLC:
3. New name;
4. When conversion is to be effective
c. Prepare 2553 if making an S corp election
